Bringing COVID-19 Tests to Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs)

GHIG has spent years working to strengthen health systems in LMICs and prepare these countries for outbreaks and epidemics. We continue to work with key stakeholders, countries, and partners to provide LMICs with access to COVID-19 testing.

Africa CDC Interim Guidance on the Use of Rapid Antibody Tests for COVID-19 Response
GHIG, in collaboration with LSHTM, provides technical advice to the  Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to increase COVID-19 testing in Africa. ACDC has developed a document to provide guidance for Ministries of Health  (MOHs) in the African Union Member States in the selection and application of rapid antibody tests to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ACDC Bio Banking and Evaluations
GHIG is supporting ACDC to establish a network of bio banks that will bring capacity to develop and evaluate diagnostics to the continent.

SARS-CoV-2 Control Panels
GHIG is providing the University of Colorado with technical advice for them to establish a standardized SARS-CoV-2 serology panel that can be used for trainings, quality assessments, lot-to-lot verifications and multi-site comparisons.

New Technologies
GHIG may also work with industry to accelerate market entry of quality diagnostics. We provide technical advice to ensure the test is optimal for patient and program. We also lend our expertise on implementing new technologies in LMICs.

Policy Projects
GHIG works closely with LSHTM to deliver evidence and expertise that will prompt policy changes that will accelerate the uptake of diagnostics in countries. This is often done by bringing together key opinion leaders and sharing lessons learned.
